Decision details

Allocation of UKSPF monies for development of an Air Quality website

Decision Maker: Head of Housing and Health

Decision status: Recommendations Approved

Is Key decision?: No

Is subject to call in?: No

Purpose:

At its meeting of 18th January 2023, Council approved the use of UKSPF funds to establish a community chest for hyperlocal environmental sustainability projects.
At the same meeting, Council delegated decision-making on all environmental grants and contracts to the Head of Housing and Health acting in consultation with the Executive Member for Environmental Sustainability.

Funding is being allocated from the UKSPF monies to encourage public engagement with and understanding of air quality in line with objectives set the council's Air Quality Action Plan, 2024-2029, in particular, action 3.7 to 'create an East Herts stand alone air quality website' to 'increase awareness, access to information and resources'.

The website will also further sustainability and engagement UKSPF priorities.

Decision:

Allocation of £31,100 of UKSPF sustainability stream funds for the design and implementation of a dynamic, interactive, live-data-feed Air Quality website to Consider Digital Ltd, following a competitive tender process.

Alternative options considered:

Option 1 - Not fund all or some of the works. NOT RECOMMENDED because the proposed works will facilitate public engagement in tackling air quality by providing information and advice drawing directly on East Herts' data. This, in turn, will address sustainability and engagement UKSPF priorities.
Option 2 - Fund the measure as described for the reasons given.
