Councillor Miriam Swainston

Having qualified as a Food Technologist my first full time job was in the Quality Assurance laboratory of IDV Ltd in Harlow. I then had children and participated in various voluntary roles including helping run a toddler group and being active on the PTA of both the primary and secondary state schools my children attended. I completed a BEd in Secondary Science Education and went on to teach Science in five different schools in Hertfordshire and Essex over a period of twenty six years. During this time I spent some time as a union rep supporting colleagues through restructuring and enforced academisation. 

My personal passion is using scientific understanding to help both people and nature thrive. This underpins my stated aims as a candidate, that I want to ensure that developments are built with suitable amenities and infrastructure to enable residents to have a good quality of life, whilst also minimising pollution and fostering sustainability.
