Minimise traffic impact from development East of Gresley Way, Stevenage 3/19/0118/OUT

We the undersigned petition the Council to ensure that both the EOS1 (Gresley Park) Masterplan Steering Group and the Council’s Development Management Committee takes note of the significant number of comments made on the Panning Application, referenced 3/19/0118/OUT and require the applicant to resubmit the application with new proposals that … 1. Avoids the need to create three new major road junctions on this short stretch of Gresley way directly opposite Chells Manor, and 2. Come forward with positive proposals to mitigate the traffic impact on adjacent country lanes leading to the villages of Aston and Walkern.

Gresley Way is regarded by many as the Stevenage East ring road. Indeed, traffic signs look to direct traffic seeking to access the A602 along this route to avoid the heavily congested Monkswood Way roundabout in Stevenage.

Provision of three traffic lights between Lanterns Lane and the Stevenage / Walkern Road roundabout, about 1,000 yards in length, will slow the traffic flow and bunch traffic between the proposed new access routes generating higher vehicle emissions affecting residents living adjacent to The White Way, Chalkdown and Uplands.

A single spine road leading off the Stevenage / Walkern Road roundabout and the proposed EOS1 southern entrance (junction 8) would still accommodate the volume of houses and facilities proposed, would be less costly to implement, reduce the build-out time, enable the retention of the tree line bund and significantly reduce inconvenience to residents and road users during the construction phase.
